Something Called Sleep?

Sleep has, for the better part of 3 months, been something of a luxury for Jon and I. We want to sleep. We are tired. We put our heads on the pillow. We say goodnight. Then we remember... we have a 3 month old. Lexi is somewhat of a super hero. She lives the life of a baby without requiring ANY naps, and very little actual sleep. Her night life has become somewhat of a routine (most nights that is). She sleeps from about 11pm until 3am, eats and then sleeps again until around 7am. That leads to what is normally adequate night sleep for Jon and I. BUT, and here is the kicker, she does not nap. Ever. At all. If her eyes are closed and we put her down, we can expect 20 blissful minutes of no crying, followed by crying her eyes out until she is acknowledged. We have read the baby books, seen the videos, but Lexi does not fit in to any definition of 'normal' baby. We try to console her, and she continues to cry. Once she's awake and upset, there is very little that can be done. If you've ever breastfed, you know that the sound of a crying baby activates a dinner's ready response, so letting her cry is painful for me, in more ways than one. We continue to work with her on this aspect of her babyhood.

This all means that my job as a full time mom is indeed full time. She uses every bit of my time that she can to be entertained, and to entertain. It is an amazing thing to see her reach for a toy and hit at it one week, and see her pick up the same toy and hold it the next week. She has even started to laugh (although it does seem to be AT mommy). I am loving being Lexi's mommy. It is challenging and rewarding, just as I had expected it to be. I was just hoping for some naps!

I am also trying a new adventure in buying local. My debit card number was stolen recently, and the brilliant criminal used it to purchase things online and have them sent to me. I believe the number was stolen from one of the few places I have used that card, Amazon.com. For this year, or for as long as I can handle it, I will be making purchase by going to stores. I will look first at locally owned stores, and then look to chain stores. I may have to drive farther (all the way downtown or to the valley), but I will do it to see if there is anything I will be missing out on in the virtual shopping world.

Guess who rolled over???

Lexi rolled over for the first time tonight! At 11 weeks we can already tell she'll be very athletic. Enjoy!
